Lead Us, Barack

I have to take a moment to express how I feel right now. I have never been so full of joy, hope, inspiration and pride at what America did last night in electing Barack Hussein Obama the 44th President of the United States.

I have to admit, I was skeptical. I was not sure if this country was ready to elect a man like Barack. Even after he won the nomination, I still had my doubts. But man oh man, was I proven wrong. And in a cynical world like this, how often does that happen?

I got pretty choked up on several occasions yesterday, thinking about Barack’s grandmother, thinking about my own parents and how much this country has changed from when they came here 35 years ago. How amazing and inspiring it is for all people, regardless of skin color, background, ethnicity, sexual orientation – to look up and see the Obama family as the country’s First Family and realize that in this day and age, you can still accomplish whatever you set your mind to through hard work, perseverance, skill and dedication.

This election was basically a catharsis, a catharsis of the terrible leadership America has had over the past 8 years – and I look forward to watching Obama lead this country into a better, safer and more prosperous future. As I am sure he will ask, I am willing to sacrifice for this country, and I hope those reading this will do the same.

I’d just like to end with a line from Obama’s powerful acceptance speech last night: “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”

  1. I was starting to get pretty cynical myself as we got closer to election day, and was happily amazed by the huge margin with which Obama won. “The country spoke, and it spoke loud and clear”. Your post is getting me all choked up. Thank goodness for hope, and thank goodness for a change from our current leadership. It’s going to be a fresh new year.

  2. hey deepa –

i was so happy too. as a canadian and i am so happy for america. it certainly is a step in the right direction. poor obama has inherited so many problems though. i hope he gets two terms to fix it all. the most refreshing part of his speech last night (no mention of the big G (god))… focus on people, their lives and just getting along and making things better ๐Ÿ™‚ cya – stef

  3. What an amazing day in American history! Dreams do come true! Did you all see how Oprah Winfrey revealed this week that she uses a vision board to visualize her goals and harness the power of intention? Oprah created a vision board, months ago, that emphasized Obama as president and the gown she intended to wear during his imagined inauguration.

For anybody who doesnโ€™t know, a vision board is collage of image that symbolizes a desired outcome. By looking at these images daily and imagining these desired outcomes โ€“ like accomplishing a goal โ€“ your brain becomes more honed in to making this reality. Many top athletes, entrepreneurs, presidents, and philanthropists have used vision boards to help them accomplish their goals.

I know that on http://www.TheVisionBoardKit.com you can download a free chapter that includes the eight basic ingredients of a successful vision board.

If what you mean by “a man like Barack”, a black American. We’ve been ready for quite a while. It’s been a non-issue for a few years. Very few people had issue with Obama’s race.

If what you mean by “a man like Barack”, a socialist. And believes he knows what’s best for “you”. Well, this is what most people were objecting too.

I was actually disappointed in this regard. Did you see the ballots for marriage propositions. And how many passed. And though it’ll be blamed on the Religious Right. One needs to remember the voter turnout for this election was strongly Democrat. California, strongly Democrat. And when these passed with 70%+, you have to realize that was a LOT of Democrat voters.

I was also disappointed, because I know many African-Americans. And they did not vote based on the character or the policies of the man. They voted because of skin color. So while I am glad that America has come so far from where it was 40 yrs ago, I am also saddened that race is still so significant. I would have loved to have seen a black man win but see both the black and white vote split. Then I’d know we’d have come even farther in to colorblindness as a nation.

Terrible leadership for far longer than 8 yrs. We’ve been building up a Federal deficit for decades that now approaches $50 trillion.

Congress is the one group with a lower approval rating than President Bush. It’s easy to blame everything on one man. But there is a whole Congress that is far more to blame for many things.

“I look forward to watching Obama lead this country into a better, safer and more prosperous future. ”

I would very much like to see a better, safer, freer and more prosperous future as well. I hope we see such.

Sadly, I think both the White House and Congress will continue their tendency to spend the nation into bankruptcy and waste the resources.

  5. I witnessed a rush of vital self esteem for the emergent youth generations. We are all ready to envision and participate in creating a world who cultivates our best human atribures

  6. UPDATE: Today, Obama said he’ll “renew the information superhighway” which means: “give every child a chance to get online”, “ensure that our hospitals are connected to each other through the internet”, and “make sure that every doctorโ€™s office and hospital in this country is using cutting edge technology and electronic medical records”

I wonder if that will manifest itself into opportunities for Flash Platform programmers?
